For the upcoming show "How Hard Can It Be?" on the National Geographic Channel, engineers constructed a basic house structure and lifted it into the air for more than an hour by 300 weather balloons.
"The folks over at National Geographic recreated what every children dreamed of at least once: lifting up a house just with balloons - 300 of them, to be more exact.
The project is part of a wider Nat Geo series called "How Hard Can it Be?" which will be on air this fall - the point of the series is to show just what can happen when scientists, engineers, and a significant amount of craziness get together; in this case, they also required a couple of world class balloon pilots, though how a house can be piloted is beyond me.
The experiment was successful, with the whole experimental "aircraft" being launched from Los Angeles and reaching an altitude of over 10.000 feet (!), in a flight that lasted over an hour."
