Evangeline Lilly, Benedict Cumberbatch and Luke Evansjoining join the cast of The Hobbit
Sir Peter Jackson
has added a new entry to his official Facebook page confirming the casting of two actors and announcing the addition of two more. To sum, he confirms the casting of Luke Evans as Bard and Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock in the BBC TV series Sherlock) as Smaug (but not the Necromancer). As for the new additions, Lost's Evangeline Lilly has joined as Tauriel a Woodland Elf (not a character in the book) while Barry Humphries (Finding Nemo) will do the motion capture and voice for the CGI Goblin King.

Sony unveiles Playstation Vita, the new mobile gaming device
Sony announced at Sony's E3 press conference the upcoming handheld console Playstation Vita.
The PlayStation Vita, or simply the PS Vita includes two analog sticks, a 5 inch OLED multi-touch capacitive touchscreen, 3G, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi support. Internally, the device features a 4 core ARM Cortex-A9 core processor and a 4 core SGX543MP4+ graphics processing unit as well as LiveArea as its main user interface, which succeeds the XrossMediaBar for the PlayStation Portable.
The device features full backwards compatibility with all PlayStation Portable games digitally released on the PlayStation Network, via PlayStation Store, the device's dual analog sticks will be supported in only select games. The device will upscale and smooth the graphics of the PSP games via a software emulator for the device.

The Arctic Light - Breathtaking Time-Lapse HD Video Captures Northern Phenomenon
"This was filmed between 29th April and 10th May 2011 in the Arctic, on
the archipelago Lofoten in Norway.
My favorite natural phenomenon is one I do not even know the name of, even after talking to meteorologists and astrophysicists I am none the wiser.What I am talking about I have decided to call The Arctic Light and it is a natural phenomenon occurring 2-4 weeks before you can see the Midnight Sun.
The Sunset and Sunrise are connected in one magnificent show of color and light lasting from 8 to 12 hours. The sun is barely going below the horizon before coming up again. This is the most colorful light that I know, and the main reason I have been going up there for the last 4 years, at the exact
same time of year, to photograph. Based on previous experience, I knew this was going to be a very
difficult trip. Having lost a couple of cameras and some other equipment up there before, it was crucial to bring an extra set of everything. I also made sure I had plenty of time in case something went wrong.
If you can imagine roping down mountain cliffs, or jumping around on slippery rocks covered in seaweed with 2 tripods, a rail, a controller, camera, lenses, filters and rigging for 4-5 hour long sequences at a time, and then having to calculate the rise and fall of the tides in order to capture the essence - it all prved bit of a challenge.
And almost as if planned, the trip would turn out to become very difficult indeed. I had numerous setbacks including: airline lost my luggage, struggling to swim ashore after falling into the Arctic sea: twice, breaking lenses, filters, tripod, computer, losing the whole dolly rig and controller into the sea, and even falling off a rather tall rock and ending up in the hospital. As much as I wanted to give up, the best way Out is
always “Through”. I am glad I stuck it through though because there were some amazing sunrises waiting."

Malayan Tiger Cubs
2-week-old Malayan tiger cubs recently opened their eyes at the San Diego Zoo.

The unnamed male cubs can see only shadows right now. They make soft chuffing noises, sleep most of the day and nurse when awake. Their legs are not strong enough to carry their rotund body, weighing 7.7 pounds. |

The cubs scoot around the tiger's den only far enough to reach their favorite corner and are completely dependent on their 12-year-old mother, Mek Degong. The cubs will remain closely guarded by their experienced mother, who has had three litters at the San Diego Zoo. At approximately 3 months old the cubs should be able to maneuver freely around on their own and will make their public debut. |
