PM Putin sings 'Blueberry Hill' and plays piano to raise cash for children's charity

St Petersburg played host to a number of celebrities from all around the world but the one that stood out was not an actor or a singer. It was Russia's very own Prime Minister Vladimir Putin. He even got a standing ovation.

Full video of Vladimir Putin playing the piano and singing "Blueberry Hill". The Russian prime minister is used to taking to the stage, but this time it was not for one of his speeches. Vladimir Putin made his audience sit up and take note, as he sang at a charity fundraiser. The reception at an ice stadium in St. Petersburg was dedicated to fighting children's cancer. International celebrities including Kevin Costner, Gerard Depardieu, Mickey Rourke, Sharon Stone, Kurt Russell, Vincent Cassel, Monica Belucci, Ornella Muti, Goldie Hawn and many others attended the benefit concert. Many of the stars are actively involved in charity work which draws needed attention to children's oncological and ophthalmological diseases. When the hostess approached Putin's table and asked him to sing for the audience, his immediate reaction was "are you kidding me?" But the hostess was determined to get the prime minister on the mic and reminded him about the songs he sang with the Russian sleeper agents extradited from the US last summer. Putin attempted to evade the proposal by saying that the singing she was referring to had come from the heart. However, after seeing the pictures of ill children shown to the audience on the big screen, he took to the stage. "Like the majority of people I cannot -- but do like to sing and to play -- so you'll have to rough it," he warned as he sat at the piano and played the beginning of Blueberry Hill. The tune was immediately caught by Maceo Parker's jazz band. The prime minister then took the mic and sang it in English himself. Putin returned to the piano to sing in Russian "From What the Homeland Starts" -- the song he sang with the exposed Russian agents. The audience loved his performance and showed their appreciation with a standing ovation and applause. Many recorded the one man show on their mobile phones. On December 1, Putin confessed to US chat show host Larry King that he does study some songs in English with his language tutor. When the concert was over Putin took Sharon Stone by the arm and together with other guests they went on stage to sing a Russian song about cosmonauts, "Grass Near Home".

Los Angeles Lakers guard Sasha Vujacic says he's engaged to marry Russian tennis star Maria Sharapova.

"We are engaged and are both really happy," Vujacic said Thursday night before the Lakers' exhibition game against Golden State. "It's good and now we can focus on other things."

The agent for three-time Grand Slam champion Sharapova confirmed the news in an e-mail to The Associated Press.

Vujacic said he proposed on the one-year anniversary of their first meeting at a friend's barbecue.

"It's was probably old school," Vujacic said. "I had to do it like a gentlemen."

The Slovenian guard returned to action Thursday, a week after getting a concussion when teammate Lamar Odom accidentally elbowed him in the face during practice. Vujacic averaged 2.8 points and 1.2 rebounds in 67 games for the Lakers last season, his sixth with the club.

Sharapova won her first major title at Wimbledon in 2004, when she was 17. She went on to win the 2006 U.S. Open and 2008 Australian Open and also reached No. 1 in the WTA rankings.

After shoulder surgery and an elbow injury forced her to miss time the past two seasons, Sharapova is currently ranked 18th.

Maria Sharapova holds the women's US Open trophy at the tennis tournament in New York in 2006. Sharapova defeated Belgium's Justine Henin-Hardenne 6-4, 6-4.

Cristiano Ronaldo gets engaged to Russian model

Footballer Cristiano Ronaldo has become another man who has fallen into the charms of breath-taking beauty of Russian ladies. Tabloids actively discuss Ronaldo’s love affair with Russian model Irina Sheik.

Born as Irina Sheikhlislamova, the girl spent her childhood in a tiny apartment in the town of Emanzhelinsk, in the Chelyabinsk region of Russia.

Irina was born to become a fashion model. She went to a local agency in Chelyabinsk in 2004. The agency was not impressed with her body and face. The same year Irina won a regional beauty pageant and went to Moscow. Afterwards, she traveled to New York and Paris.

Irina Sheik has been on the catwalk for Guess, Lacoste, Missoni and La Perla. She was a lingerie model for Intimisimi and appeared on the covers of fashion magazines. Now the model works with Armani: she met Ronaldo when shooting a commercial for this fashion house.

Before her acquaintance to Ronaldo she was in a relationship with Linkin Park rock band drummer Rob Bourdon.

Recently Portuguese star football player Cristiano Ronaldo has proposed to his beloved Russian-born model Irina Sheik. Sheik has already received her parents’ blessing.

Observers of the Portuguese newspaper Correio de Manha have learned that Ronaldo struggled for the heart of the hot green-eyed brunette. Twenty-four-year-old Irina Sheik, known for her career as a lingerie model with Victoria's Secret and Intimissimi, was chased by the Portuguese half-back of Spanish Real Madrid for over four months. The girl persistently refused to give out her cell phone number, but eventually succumbed to his charms.

The relationship was made public in May this year when the couple was noticed together on vacation in Corsica.
